Repair and Service Questions
Can my CPT be repaired and serviced?
It can be worthwile and cost effective to repair an older CPT if the repairs required are not too extensive and the CPT is in good condition. While all the parts can be replaced or repaired, for reliability it is usually not cost effective if the motor and main circuit boards are not in fair shape or servicable, as final cost can approach the cost of a new pilot.
There are many older CPTs around, but they are not all servicable or good candidates for repair. Avoid CPTs that have been water damaged, had repairs & modifications attempted by owners, or show signs of problems (see Basic CPT Diagnostics.). We cannot usually repair or service CPTs that have had non-factory repairs or modifications made. Owner attempted repairs result in added costly damage.
Before buying or considering repair of an older CPT, you can perform a few basic checks to give you some idea of its condition. See Basic CPT Diagnostics.
How do I maintain the drive clutch?

Older style drive clutches use a 1/2" stainless shaft and a yellow drive gear. Newer drive clutches use a 5/8" stainless shaft and black drive gear; the allen-head setscrew in the stainless disk should be checked for tightness each season. Follow the instructions appropriate to the clutch style:
